National Geographic
Adventure Magazine
Visits the Roanoke |
|
|
T. Edward Nickens has written about this
area for national magazines (like the articles on the Cypress Grill in
Southern Living and Smithsonian magazines) but this article took him
deep into the swamps of the Roanoke for some primitive camping. By
Nicken's standards, primitive means a Nalgene bottle of wine and some
freezer-fresh wild game sautéed in olive oil. Still, the surroundings
are primordial and Nickens always tells his story well.
The article was in the April
issue of National Geographic Adventure Magazine in the Trips section, bottom of page 31 and all of page 32!

This photo of Nickens was taken when he

Magazine. Left, Cypress Grill operators, Leslie and Sally Gardner(seated), Nickens,
Cypress Grill owner "Red" Roberson and local fisherman Guy Cox,
talk about the Grill.
